What Follows explores the quiet reality that life rarely moves forward without carrying something behind it. The bison became a symbol of resilience for me, not because of strength alone, but because of its ability to continue moving despite the weight of unseen pressures that follow. The wolves hidden within the landscape are intentionally difficult to discover, existing more as a presence than a focal point. They represent the challenges, doubts, responsibilities, and hardships that often remain in the background of our lives while still influencing the path ahead.

What interested me most while creating this piece was the idea that the greatest struggles are not always the ones directly in front of us. Often they linger behind us, shaping our decisions, demanding our attention, and quietly consuming energy even when they are not immediately visible. By concealing the wolves within the atmosphere and terrain, I wanted viewers to experience a moment of discovery that mirrors this realization. The painting changes as it is observed, revealing layers that may not be apparent at first glance.

The subdued palette and softened transitions throughout the landscape were chosen to support this sense of uncertainty and reflection. Rather than depicting a dramatic confrontation, I wanted the work to feel contemplative and enduring. The bison continues forward, aware of what follows yet unwilling to be defined by it. For me, the painting is ultimately about perseverance, the burdens we carry, and the quiet determination required to keep moving toward what comes next.
