Allowed To Become explores the idea that growth does not happen in the same way for everyone. I wanted one pup to remain focused on the guidance and presence of the mother, while the other is already being drawn outward by curiosity and the instinct to move forward into the unknown. Neither path is portrayed as right or wrong, only different expressions of becoming.

The painting reflects my fascination with the balance between protection and independence that exists throughout the natural world. The mother wolf is not controlling the direction of the pups but creating the space for them to gradually discover themselves. I wanted the piece to feel less like a literal family scene and more like a reflection on trust, individuality, and the quiet process of finding one’s own path.

Throughout the painting, I wanted the snowy landscape and softened atmosphere to reinforce the feeling of quiet transition rather than conflict or separation. The subtle differences in posture, focus, and movement between the pups became just as important to me as the wolves themselves. I wanted the piece to feel gentle and reflective, capturing the idea that becoming who we are often begins long before we fully understand where we are going.
