Inland Tide came from my fascination with the prairies feeling less like empty land and more like an ocean in motion. I wanted the wind moving through the grass to feel almost tidal, transforming the field into something alive and constantly shifting beneath the storm. The fox became part of that movement rather than simply standing within the landscape.

I was especially drawn to the contrast between openness and tension within the scene. The approaching storm clouds create a sense of weight and uncertainty, while the flowing grasses and light moving across the field bring energy and rhythm to the painting. I wanted the piece to feel suspended between calm and change, as though the landscape itself was preparing to transform.

Throughout the painting, I focused on creating movement through colour transitions, layered brushwork, and atmospheric depth rather than dramatic action. I wanted the viewer to feel immersed in the environment and slowly notice how the fox, the wind, and the prairie all seem to move together as part of the same living current.
